You can explore a secret haunted graveyard


The secret haunted graveyard lies within Bullards Beach State Park.


Take the entrance to the campground and tell the attendant you are visiting the secret haunted graveyard. There is no fee for this. There are two trails. Take the unmarked trail.



This tiny plot's first recipient was thirteen-year old Mary Ellen Hamblock. She was eventually joined by the others before the land was sold to the state in 1963. It's now Bullards Beach State Park. Hardly a cemetery and no longer in use, it does have a nice entrance gate and its scattered graves are carved out of the rampant coastal growth. And what the heck, you can stay in a yurt if you want to.

ask mongo Dear Mongo: Here's a tip for the ladies. Last year my husband entered the cemetery at night and I haven't seen him since. I'm not kidding.












Thirteen graves can be found in the cemetery. Warning! Do not attempt to look for a 14th grave.


ask mongo Dear Mongo: We found the 14th grave, and I asked my husband to stand on it. He then spoke the name aloud that was written on the headstone. Then a hand raised up out of the ground, grabbed my husband's leg, and pulled him down under. Was that a zombie? I haven't seen my husband since.
